Aaaaaah! It’s first show week, it’s first show week, it’s first show week!!! Gah! Where is my tape recorder? Where is my manual? Where is my judge’s bag? Oh… hey, wait a minute. This is the MOVEMENT column… hold on, let me take of my judge hat and find my Movement Chick legwarmers. Phew, that’s better
[Sidebar: I am NOT that unprepared to step into the stands, I assure y’all… that was purely for dramatic effect]
And also, I know, the rest of the free world is not perhaps quite so crazy ridiculous over eager timely as is Upstate New York, and the first show may NOT be so blasted refreshingly early. It is, however, out there and will be here before we know it. [Again, speak for yourself… in my little world, it’s HERE… but as ever, I digress] So… this week, it is my supreme goal to give you one or two last minute miracle fixes to your show. Okay, fine. There are NO miracle fixes, you’re absolutely right. Nothing will stand in the stead of good, solid and ongoing training. Nothing takes the place of a regular and effective body/dance block; strength training and equipment basics. Nothing will solve first show jitters and the resultant performance concerns. [Gee, Movement Chick, helpful much?] However. If I were to provide anyone out there with some thoughts, here they are. |

Hello Everyone! I know! Once again, here I am… the proverbial bad penny. Third time’s the charm, right? I am back to whisper sweet nothings at you with regard to your movement programs. Warms the very soul, doesn’t it? [I DID mention the not getting out much thing, right? Oh, good. ] This week’s topic comes to us from the fantastic mid section of our great country, where those crazy people fine pageantry people of Kansas City brought in yours truly to do some training for their association. No, I didn’t pay them, sheesh. I did promise to be their best friend and wash their windows, but that’s a completely different matter all together. In a moment of seriousness, it was a great trip, great dialogue and great people. Good pageantry times were had, and some in depth discussions were raised also. [Incidentally, it’s not always safe to get that many movement people in a room together and show videos with, errr… shall we say “less than stellar” line…there may have been much some wincing and clutching of pearls. Hypothetically, of course] Digress much? Alrighty then. Can we please, please, pretty please discuss our most favorite-est sauté in the history of our activity? Yes, boys and girls, it is the Sauté Arabesque. If you are not doing this, you may want to peek out from that rock you’re living under and put your jazz shoes on. It’s practically a staple on the A sheet, and it’s a great fill on any sheet. |

Well, hi! They let me come back, can you even stand it? I am just tickled. See, one column, well; I’m not certain that’s really a column, now is it? Two, however. Now, that shows a trend, that shows continuity… that shows that perhaps I need to get out more, do you think? A-hem. This week, I am taking on a subject near and dear to my very soul…Yes, my darlings, let’s talk about STRENGTH training. Oh, I know. You don’t have time, you don’t see the benefits, there is no need to do this when we’re already stretching…. Silly, silly Movement Chick. Mmmm Hmmm. I’ve heard them all. Trust me. |

We are so excited today to launch our very first regular weekly column here at CGE! The fabulous Cheryl Myers - a longtime member of our team - is going to bring us one tidbit of useful and entertaining information about movement each Monday. And she'd love for you to write in with your best questions so she can try to address those! Today, her first installment is about the toe point! Here she goes!
A Column! Hey, lookey there, I have a column. “Kids… Kids! Mommy has a column… No, over here.. Honey; no, here… it’s about movement. Well, yes, Dancing. Yes, like Mommy does in the gym… What? Oh. Well. Sure, you can have a snack.” Sigh… Well then. The chickadees aren’t quite as thrilled as I about this new development at CGE, but hey, baby steps. Welcome to Movement Mondays! Guided by yours truly ~ The Movement Chick. Oh, you like the new title? **blush** Thank you… I made it up myself. Ok, I’m done rambling. The idea here is to provide a brief snippet of information relative to your movement program each week. Do you have a question? A concern? A skill which is just not working out for your team? A Macy’s gift card you have NO idea what to do with? Please, let us know and we’ll contribute as best we can. Who is “we” you ask? Why, yours truly and my fantastic research team. A-hem. Just as soon as we recruit that team. In the interim, it’s yours truly and the dictionary; my wealth of knowledge; the four shelves of anatomy and dance books I actually do own and, of course, Google.
