Quick Tip!

Each year I assign everyone a number for Fall Guard. I then number all equipment with these numbers. The girls are to use the equipment with their number on it only- whether it’s for a rehearsal or taking their equipment home. This way if anything is damaged I will know who to go to about the damage. I just write the numbers on the crutch tip with a permanent marker both on top and on the side.

No. 4 : colorguard sponsor
Hi! I am a volunteer sponsor for our local HS. I was a colorguard captain for 4 yrs in hs but it has been A LONG TIME and I am a little rusty. I helped and observed last season, and now I am ready to take over. One of the biggest obstacles I am trying to overcome is the "names" of different moves and techniques that may have changed over the years. Some of the ones that you have listed here are familiar and we are doing them some I do not recognize by name. Is there a resource that I can refer to to re-train myself on the new criterior for todays guard?

No. 5 : great idea!
That's a great idea actually... we don't have any visual demonstrations yet - but that might be fun to do short video clips of some basic moves along with the various regional names for those moves. Maybe this summer!

Hey! Can't anyone make a quick YouTube video of a warm up or training? It would be a great help! Thanks

No. 7 : Coordinator and Instructor
To the guest user who posted on March 22, 2010:
Hi. I think that you have about 3 potentially good options.
1) Some WGI Circuits offer instructional camps during the summer for all instructors with a wide range of abilities.
2) Many independent world groups offer summer training camps. The one down side to that is that they teach very quickly and the work is always more than challenging.
3) Another option, and in my opinion maybe the best fitted for you, would be to look up university summer guard camps. We have several here in Louisiana at ULL, Northwestern, and LSU. It would be a great option, because you could gain a solid understanding of technique and fundamentals, but also could get some training with current progressions in choreography. You would be learning in teams with other students, therefore, you would be able to really learn things.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you find something that works for you.

Have a great summer!

No. 8 : Any Suggestions?
Hi! This will be my third year as head coach & my 7th year being involved in guard.. As the years have passed, I have realized that the numbers of the band & guard have been getting smaller and smaller. This year I only have 4 girls. They are all amazing performers..but as you all know, 4 girls can't make a huge impact on the field. Any suggestions on how to make a show that will emphasize their amazing abilities?
thank you!

No. 10 : guard

hey. what i/we do in guard is first we strech. then we do 27-30 junping jacks, but two counts as one, we do crunches puchups, lunges. and run a lap ot two. we also practice our marching in the hot sun. when we are in the auditorium, we do our flag basis, whic involves 100 drop spins off each, 10 clicks off each hand, double fast on each, triplets on each, and tosses like the money hand, hit hit toss, and pop toss. it tires you out.
