The US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) is embarking on a new chapter in their organizational history. This winter, 2010, they will begin offering Winter Guard & Percussion competition. The USSBA is a branch of the non-profit organization Youth Education in the Arts better known as YEA! and the home base to the nine-time DCI world champions, The Cadets. The indoor season kicks off on February 6, 2010 at Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania for both color guard & percussion. USSBA will host competitions throughout PA, NJ, MD, & CT the following 8 weeks culminating with a championships competition on April 17, 2010 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ. Scholastic units interested in participating still have time to sign up for events online at www.ussbaindoor.org Under the leadership of Director, Sean King, Percussion Education Director, Dennis DeLucia, & Colorguard Education Director, Beverly Brahan the participating units are promised a high quality experience. The inaugural season will focus exclusively on Scholastic units with a performer-first based scoring system that will include a penalty free environment. Beverly Brahan shared, “I am excited about USSBA's Indoor scoring system because it is weighted toward the performers. We have established a different criterion-reference system than that of other indoor circuits. USSBA scoring emphasizes the success of performers in the captions of general effect, ensemble analysis, movement and equipment.”Questions regarding the competitive criteria or USSBA Indoor should be directed to Tim Gallagher, Event Coordinator for the USSBA at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or Tara Lee Bryant, Band Host Relations, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or by telephone at (610) 821-0345, Ext. 113 or 119, respectively.
